Christian Hospital Bisamcuttack

Merging the old with the new

PROJECT DETAILS

Christian Hospital Bisamcuttack (CHB), located in the remote Rayagada district of Orissa, is a 200-patient OPD, 60 bed hospital made of brick masonry load bearing structures, built in parts from the 1960s to 1980s.The hospital plans to expand by 60,000 square feet.

FEASIBILITY STUDY

  1. Are the current buildings fit to be expanded upon?
  2. If yes, how can this be implemented to achieve maximum utility

Basis a site survey that mapped the buildings according to date of construction and existing problems, Agami recommended the blocks that were fit for expansion. The Master planning team relied on this to create the 20,000 sq. feet expansion master plan.

CONCEPT DESIGN FOR NEW AND OLD CONSTRUCTION

2) Masonry expansion concepts were proposed

New RCC Construction was designed keeping economic considerations as top priorities - specific economic analysis determined the most beneficial slab - flat slab versus beam column slab.

CHALLENGES IN DESIGN/EXECUTION

Agami helped CHB select the right site coordinator and trained him at their Mumbai office to aptly read the drawings, perform site quality checks and seamlessly liaise between the designers in Mumbai and the site construction team.

Additionally, both the old and new constructions posed various design challenges. These had to be factored in to prevent any kind of structural damage to the existing structure and its foundations during the construction of new structures. AGAMI would provide construction time support for easing the various construction hurdles expected.

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

“Christian Hospital values Agami’s technical finesse and deep understanding of complex structural concepts and has forged a long-term partnership to design future versions of the mounting systems”
